The 23 Things (act 3)

I have re done all of my titles and gone back to add answers to some of the questions that I had neglected to answer during this learning experience, and also elaborate on some of the topics that I had been vague on.  If it is still confusing, I will try to explain here.

The Titles begin with a "thing".  These are referring to the 11 lessons of the 23 things.  The number next to the lesson are the individual things that are listed under the lessons. There are 23 of them.  They may no longer be in order, but the information is certainly there.  I hope this is more clear. It seemed to be for me, but then again this will be the third time doing it so "frustrated" does not begin to explain what I am feeling right now.

Thing 3 #5

Once I set up a flickr account, It was very easy to join the vermont librarians group and add some pictures of my library to it! Now you can go there and see the YA section @ Sherburne Memorial Library!I also posted a picture right here for all to see!

Thing 2 #4

Something about technology that interests me this week is that I have heard that beginning this summer, facebook will no longer be free.  Knowing that I will no longer use facebook if this happens, I need to begin to copy all of the pictures I have there and put them somewhere else so that I do not loose them.

Thing 11 #22

I use pod casts all the time for book reviews from school library journal. They are very helpful.

One way libraries are using pod casts is to help further their knowledge in the future of libraries and technology in libraries.

My director has the staff use podcasts all the time if there is a topic that she believes we all need to pay attention to.

the dates of these pod casts were outdated

google docs is very similar to microsoft office and we are using this for the Vermont Library Conference
I like that everyone can check in, proof, and make changes easier than in office.

I had trouble with this one and posted as a comment under the 23 things

I CANNOT GET THE GOOGLE DOC TO MY BLOG…IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?

Thing 9 #16&17

Who is Bill Bartmann?

The Douglas County library can no longer be accessed this way.

I also use wikis all the time for movie themes and informationa bout authors. A drawback is that you never know if the information is correct or not.  This may work well  when we are working on our emergancy management planning.

I went on the Vermont's 23 things sandbox and got a bunch of great ideas for place to go in the state for some good food.  I also commented that Kinchley's pizza in Ramsey is one of my favorite places to go! I copied and pasted that comment here

I think twitter would be fun if I had a cellphone that was able to do this.  Some of my friends that are musicians tweet to tell people whena dn where they will be performing.

No offense, but I think that as a public we are already so wrapped up in what celebraties are doung, do we really need to know more? Unplug already!

Libraries in more populated areas may use twitter to post programming, or new releases, etc, but I am not convinced that tweeting is the answer for libraries.  I tried to search VT libraries and found only one person tweeting, and also looked up vermont as a general search, but there was really nothing that interesting there.

I wouldn't say I hate microblogging, I just don't feel that it is for me,.

this is the comment that I had made under #14 for twitter

It seems that we are having to sign up alot of accounts putting our information out there in a lot of different places. It is starting to make me a little nervous, and I don’t think Im going to open a delicous account.

I believe that library patrons could use this tool if they do not own their own personal computer and want to bookmark sites.

All in all I thought that Delicious was a bit confusing and I plan on keeping my bookmarking to Firefox.  It is more comfortable and easily accessable to me rather then opening new accounts all over the internet.

When searching something that I was interested in, I found that it came up with the same hits as it did in google, and I will continue using google for my searches.

When searching the 23things delicious page, I found nothing current or of any importance that would lead me to believe that this tool would be very useful to me.

I did not originally post on #13 because I had commented about it on the 23 things. Sorry about that.

Lesson 11 #23!!!!!!

Wow! That went by really quickly! I have learned a lot and this is a great tool.  Especially for folks that are intimidated like me!

I really liked almost all of the exercises and I have and will continue to use a lot of them.

I use facebook a lot for library announcements, and I think if more of my friends and family had flickr I would utilize that more as well.

I also have printed out and hanging up in my office the 7 and 1/2 habits and the web award short list website.  It's a reminder to me that I am learning new things everyday and that the web is constantly changing!

I did not make an account for some of the exercises because I felt REALLY uncomfortable having my e-mail out in so many places. I appreceated having the wiki already set up for those exercise and think that it wqould be a good idea to have accounts like that for the exercises so that we are not using all of our own personal information.

I doubt however that I will do anything with this blog now that I am done with the 23 things.

I would definitely participate in another discovery program if it was offered.

Thing 10 #19

Digg is pretty cool and I can see myself using this website a lot.

I signed up for google alerts to alert me when anything about intellectual freedom comes up and I am anxiously awaiting to see what I get!

addictomatic's page was very busy and there is a lot to it!

There was nothing about our library on  social mention.
